Role Overview

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be responsible for defining and executing the technology vision, product architecture, and engineering excellence for Virgil HealthCare Platforms’ diagnostic solutions.

This role requires a leader who understands diagnostic workflows, regulated medical environments, and scalable technology platforms, and can translate clinical and business needs into robust, compliant, and future-ready products.

The CTO will work closely with the Founder-CEO, Product, Quality, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to deliver reliable diagnostic solutions for global markets.

Key Responsibilities

1.⁠⁠ Technology Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and own the long-term technology roadmap aligned with business strategy and clinical requirements.
  • Design scalable, modular, and secure system architectures for diagnostic platforms.
  • Make build vs buy decisions for core components and integrations.
  • Ensure technology choices support global deployment and scale.

2.⁠⁠ Product Engineering & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end software and system development for diagnostic solutions.
  • Ensure timely delivery of product milestones (POC → Pilot → Commercial).
  • Establish strong engineering practices for reliability, performance, and maintainability.

3. ⁠⁠Quality, Compliance & Regulatory Alignment

  • Ensure technology development aligns with ISO 13485, IEC 62304, FDA, CE, and other relevant standards.
  • Embed design controls, traceability, validation, and documentation into the development lifecycle.
  • Partner closely with Quality and Regulatory teams during audits and submissions.
  • Drive a culture where quality and compliance are non-negotiable.

4.⁠⁠ Data, Security & Infrastructure

  • Own data architecture, cybersecurity, and privacy across platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data protection requirements (HIPAA-like controls, data integrity, audit trails).
  • Oversee cloud and on-prem infrastructure for high availability and performance.
  • Implement disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity plans.

5. ⁠⁠Engineering Team Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering and technology teams.
  • Define roles, career paths, and performance metrics for engineers.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Enable cross-functional collaboration with product, clinical, and operations teams.

6.⁠⁠ Innovation & Future Readiness

  • Track emerging technologies in diagnostics, AI/ML, automation, and data analytics.
  • Evaluate applicability of new technologies while ensuring regulatory feasibility.
  • Drive IP creation, patents, and technical differentiation.
  • Ensure platforms remain future-proof and adaptable.

7.⁠⁠ Stakeholder & Investor Engagement

  • Act as the technology spokesperson for customers, partners, auditors, and investors.
  • Support technical due diligence during fundraising and partnerships.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience

Must Have

  • 12+ years of experience in technology leadership, with significant exposure to healthcare or MedTech.
  • Hands-on experience building and scaling diagnostic, healthcare, or regulated software products.
  • Strong understanding of medical device software lifecycle and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through product commercialization.

Preferred

  • Experience with diagnostic devices, laboratory systems, or healthcare platforms.
  • Exposure to FDA, CE, ISO 13485, IEC 62304 or similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Background in cloud-native architectures, data platforms, and system integrations.
  • Experience working with global customers or markets.
